TEMPO Update
February 12, 2009
*** Welcome Season Ticket Holders! ***
TEAM TEMPO is a grassroots organization to help increase the
attendance at UNC WBB games. Many of us are season ticket holders, Rams Club
members, and/or avid supporters of our incredible Heels! This newsletter is
our introduction to you of one of our offerings to our members. To join our
effort, please visit our website and complete our
survey. Or you may just send us an email at
newsletter@meridians.us to receive future newsletters. Thanks again for
your support of Tar Heel basketball!
Calendar
AWAY
– Friday, February 13th
Get
your popcorn ready! This barn burner against Florida State starts at 6:30
p.m. on RSN network. The Heels will need to secure this important road
victory to gain the top spot for the ACC tournament seeding and the regular
season ACC championship. We must send positive thoughts to Tallahassee so
our team can feel the Tar Heel Nation spirit on the road. Since the
Seminoles are in first place, we need to keep our intensity up to out
rebound them on their home court.
Sunday, February 15th
It’s
PAYBACK Time! (Check out James Brown’s applicable shout out to our Heels on
the TT website!) The Yellow Jackets will be in town at 3:00 p.m. to sting
us, but we will have our game faces on ready to put a beat down on ‘em! You
must be in the Smith Center to see all the special activities. It’s Alumni
Day (i.e., former players, coaches, and managers are in town to celebrate
the growth and success of the Tar Heel WBB Family) and the entertaining
Fairview Flyers on their unicycles will be the halftime guests. It that
isn’t enough to motivate you to come out and bring a friend/relative then…
THINK
PINK! The women will be in their pink uniforms as they pay tribute to the
charitable efforts of those committed to the eradication of breast cancer.
TT members and fans are asked to wear pink to show support for organizations
such as the
WBCA Pink Zone campaign. Let’s make the arena look awesome with pink and
Carolina blue everywhere! Note: We may have to cheer very loudly though to
offset the color scheme to make the arena intimidating though.

Coach Hatchell Radio Show
We are
winding down on our Monday/Tuesday night happenings at Tyler’s. Coach
Hatchell is an incredible friend to TT as she chats with members and gives
us a shout out on the radio show. Please join us at Tyler’s in Carrboro
(919.929.6881) for this Monday night celebration. Host Brad Heller
(Learfield Sports and “Our Voice of the Tar Heels”) will chat with the
Hall-of-Fame Coach on WCHL-1360 AM. TT members come early at 7:00 p.m. for
food and fellowship! The show begins at 8:00 p.m.
Can’t
make the trip to Tyler’s? Through the efforts of TT, the radio show
(starting with the February 2nd show) is NOW available on the
women’s basketball official website. Yes! Go TEAM TEMPO!
ACC
Tournament
Interested in joining a bus caravan to support the Heels during the
tournament? Send a message to
buscaravan@meridians.us indicating your interest. TT is considering
hosting a TT Road Trip Experience for all serious UNC WBB fans on Saturday
(1:00 and 3:00 p.m. games) and Sunday (1:00 p.m. championship game), March 7th
and 8th.
TEMPO TALK
Player Blog
Not
only is Sunday a BIG game for our team, but our player blogger, Iman
McFarland, will celebrate her birthday! She says “thanks” to TEAM TEMPO for
our support. Check out her
latest post-Duke blog and look for her comments after every game on the
TT website.
Did you
know that Iman plays the French horn, flute, and guitar? And her mother,
Leslie, played basketball at Howard University? Our 4th year
post-player believes that it is best to “learn from yesterday, live for
today, and hope for tomorrow.” You can now respond back to Iman through a
new link too! Send your response to
playerblog@meridians.us today!
Duke
Victory
The
Heels are still bubbling from the big win over their arch rival.
Unfortunately, the celebration must end as they now focus on a critical game
against FSU on Friday night. Fans were also elated as many lost voices in
their effort to cheer on the Heels as loudly as possible. The Smith Center
had all the excitement and buzz on Monday night. The students were
thunderous and creative; Coach Hatchell, Heather, and Rashanda took the time
after the game to acknowledge them too.
A
long-time supporter wrote this wonderful thank you to the students in the
student paper:

Media Volunteers Needed
Welcome
Ed Weiss as our new squad leader for Media! Contact Ed (edsue@rocketmail.com)
to share your ideas regarding how best to increase our home attendance
through marketing strategies related to the press (print, electronic, radio,
tv, etc.). Ed has years of media experience and has been a long-time women’s
basketball supporter.
To
increase our impact, we need TEAM TEMPO members to read the newspapers
following each game AND contact the journalists to express their opinions.
If the article and coverage was great – give them a compliment! If the
coverage was inadequate or inappropriate, be professional and give them
feedback. We want the Triangle media to know that we care about media
support and we value our Tar Heels. Let us know if you are able to stay
abreast of our team in the media. Contact
ttmedia@meridians.us TODAY!
Our
latest partner in the effort to support UNC WBB is Scott Bridges’ Scout –
Inside Carolina (http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=78&f=3777&t=3824574).
Their informative site has a women’s basketball forum that we all should
join to share our comments. Scout has recruiting and team performance news
too! Go directly or visit the link on the TT website.
Recruit! Recruit! Recruit!
As
Coach Hatchell would tell us, recruiting is the lifeblood of her success.
Let’s continue to build the membership of TEAM TEMPO. Tell everyone you know
about our grassroots organization. We are committed to supporting UNC
Women’s Basketball and want to meet others who have the same passion. If you
know of other supporters, Rams Club members, faculty, staff, students,
relatives, former players, coaches, or managers – ask them to join us and to
visit our TEAM TEMPO
web site TODAY! There is power in numbers!
Member Survey – “Let your voice be heard!”
Last
Tuesday, the leaders of TT met to discuss the marketing strategies which YOU
suggested by filling out our member survey. We need your feedback each and
every week as we compile and forward this information to the marketing
coordinators in the athletic department. So please, complete the TT
survey; your feedback is essential as it is the gauge of effectiveness
and the first step to marketing success. We need to know what you want TEAM
TEMPO to accomplish to increase attendance and how you visualize us
embracing the UNC Women’s Basketball program.
Thank YOU for Your Ideas
TT
leaders had an awesome meeting on Tuesday to discuss all of your wonderful
feedback. Ideas ranged from best practices marketing regarding senior
citizens, creative halftime shows and print advertising, parking, and
outreach to local schools. TT will work closely with UNCAA to offer
suggestions and most importantly, the implementation such that the team,
coaches, UNC officials, and fans ALL win!
Look
for TT members with attractive buttons at future games. We will wear these
buttons to create brand awareness and foster group unity. If you see a TT
member with a button, ask “How may I get one TODAY?”
