Coach’s Critique
Before she leaves mid-September for a
three week recruiting trip, Coach Hatchell wanted all of us to know how
exciting she expects the up-coming season to be. The team is currently
settling into their fall class routine, joining preseason workouts, cooking
for each other, and jelling as a team full of energy and spirit.
Last Wednesday, Coach Hatchell held the
first mile run where her guards must run the mile in 6:30 and her post
players in 7:00. Eleven of the thirteen team members succeeded in this goal
on the first try!
In addition, Tia Roule’s standing
vertical, ie the highest point touched by jumping into the air from a
standing position, was logged as 10’5” with Nyree’s Williams’s close behind
at 10’4”. As a reminder, the rim is 10’. Fun, fun, fun!
2009-2010 Schedule Announced
On August 28th, the ACC
announced this year’s
schedule which includes 18 home games, 10 televised games, a rematch
with UConn on their home court, and trips to Las Vegas in honor of Italee
Lucas, Myrtle Beach for a Christmas event against South Carolina, and the
Big Ten/ACC Challenge in East Lancing, MI.
TEMPO TALK
Final
Report from By-Laws Committee
Greetings to all loyal UNC Women’s Basketball fans and especially to our
fans that joined Team Tempo last year. For Team Tempo the 2008-2009 women’s
basketball season was a year of successful beginnings as we
·
Launched a
web site,
·
Emailed a
weekly newsletter to identify activities surrounding the UNC Women’s
Basketball program,
·
Increased attendance at Coach
Hatchell’s weekly Monday night radio show,
·
Surveyed our membership to create
a
Feedback document which was delivered to UNCAA Marketing this summer,
and
·
Created buttons to identify our
members and promote Team Tempo.
A new
season now faces us with exciting prospects for a fun, successful year!
Coach Hatchell feels that last year Team Tempo created new waves of support
for the UNC Women’s Basketball program. Over the summer she encouraged and
challenged us to work hard this new season to build our membership, to
increase home game attendance, and to volunteer for projects in support of
her program.
Last
month a committee chaired by Mike Jacobs met to develop By-Laws to define
our organizational structure and describe how we will operate. The work of
the By-laws Committee is now complete.
Please
read the proposed
By-Laws and send us
your comments. A Steering Committee
will use this draft to guide our activity this season while we research
other successful booster groups and test our proposed organizational
structure. We can then incorporate whatever we learn in the next eight
months into a final version of our By-Laws. Our membership will ratify our
By-Laws and elect a Board of Directors for the next Team Tempo season, May
2010 – April 2011, at the annual meeting in April, 2010.
As currently written, the By-Laws provide
for the following Officers:
President
Facilitate and coordinate the activities and decisions
of the Board; inform the membership of same
Vice President
Perform the duties of the President in his/her absence
or disability; research other successful booster group organizations and
compare to ours
Secretary
Record and keep the minutes of all meetings of the
Board and the general membership
Treasurer
Manage all fiscal matters of the organization; sign
checks; report on the financial operations and condition of the
organization at each regular meeting of the Board and at the annual meeting
And Standing Committees:
Membership
Establish and execute programs that seek to maintain
current members as well as to attract new members to Tar Heel Team Tempo.
Volunteers
Establish and execute programs that recruit volunteers
from within the membership to serve on Tar Heel Team Tempo Committees and
staff its ad hoc projects
Communications
Function as the voice of Tar Heel Team Tempo providing
a source of information to and feedback from the membership and other fans
concerning both Tar Heel Team Tempo and the UNC Women’s Basketball program.
Events
Plan, promote, and manage social activities that seek
to make membership in Tar Heel Team Tempo an ever more enjoyable experience.
Promotions
Establish and execute programs that expand the fan base
of the UNC Women’s Basketball program and promote attendance at its games.
Serve as a resource for UNCAA by offering assistance in support of their
activities related to the Women’s Basketball program.
In the meantime, in order to move forward, our Steering
Committee will temporarily fulfill the responsibilities of the Officer and
Standing Committee Heads described above until a formal election is held
next year.
Call for Leadership Volunteers
Last year many of you offered to volunteer in some
capacity to support UNC Women’s Basketball but Team Tempo, in our initial
year, was not organized to accept your energy. With our new organization,
we now offer you fun, volunteer activities to assist Coach Hatchell and her
program.
If you would like to volunteer or recommend someone
else to serve on the Steering Committee, email
Bill Poteat. After we contact those
interested in these nine leadership
positions, we will contact those who wish to participate as committee
members.
Not only can you express your positive energy, but
volunteering allows you to interface with other outstanding, enthusiastic
supporters. One of the major benefits for me last year was meeting you!
Join the camaraderie shared at the last
Team Tempo meeting!
