TEAM TALK
Word from Jessica Breland
Even though she continues to receive chemo,
Jessica is excited that she has only two more treatments to endure. She
remains in remission and can't wait to allow her body to get back to normal.
She did do a small workout this past week, but looks forward to get back a
little more of her strength.
Despite the grueling chemo regimen, Jessica
maintains her full academic schedule and amazingly stays on top of all her
classes. Her goal is to make the Dean's List! Given her amazing inner
strength, she is likely to make it. Jessica greatly appreciates all the
support she has received from her present and former teammates, coaches,
staff and fans.
Coach’s Critique
Thanks to Coach Melissa Glyptis, the WBB
Strength & Conditioning Coach, who is better known as Coach G. for her
report to Tar Heel Team Tempo:
“As I left the Women’s Basketball locker
room only days after school had ended, excitement, and possibly a little
fear began to spread throughout the team. Their preparation for the
2009-2010 season would begin the very next day. Over the course of the
summer, these women would transform their physical ability and mental
toughness both individually and as a team.
Upon return to the University in August
only excitement remained in these girls, as they were eager for the first
time to step out onto the track at the Irwin Belk Track at Fetzer Field.
Ultimately, an unheard of 11 out of 13 women would pass their fitness test.
This precedent only enhanced their desire
to continue to improve and push themselves to their limits. Every day when
they walk into the weight room or step onto the court for conditioning, I
know I am getting their best effort. These women have raised the bar for
Women's Basketball here at The University of North Carolina and I am honored
to have been allowed to see the transformation first hand.
This team is capable of amazingly great
feats, and I cannot wait to watch these women dominate the ACC and the
Nation.”
