TEAM TALK

Sunday Scrimmage a Huge Success!

Last Sunday evening, our women’s team scrimmaged against a male basketball team, some of whom knew our team’s plays.  What fun!  What energy!  What a demonstration!

The scrimmage was scheduled for three periods of 10 minutes each.  The men took a large lead in the first session at 11-0 until our players hit their rhythm and bounced back, ending the period winning 26-23.  The men retaliated during the second session overcoming our Tar Heels 21-15.  And then there was the third session:  up for grabs ending in a 22-22 tie!  Unfazed, our Tar Heels proved that they can meet a challenge in an overtime session of two minutes as they won 32-29.

Regardless of the score, the intensity and determination of our women was a joy to behold!  At least twice, our players stood their ground and took the charge resulting in a foul for the opposition.  We actually wondered if they would stand up after the hit!  As far as their vertical ability, jump they did as they attempted to deny shots and intercept passes.

Italee lucas led the Tar Heels in scoring with 31 points including 8 three-pointers.  Laura Broomfield was the second highest scorer with 12 points.  Other scoring contributors included Chay Shegog, Cetera DeGraffenreid, Trinity Bursey, Waltiea Rolle, Tierra Ruffin-Pratt, and She’la White.

Thanks to the members of the “Blue” team for their efforts to dislodge our Tar Heel team!  Running up and down the court were:  John Allen, Cameron Belton, Tykien Cooper, Kevin Frac, Van Hatchell, Cameron Johnson, Brian Macon, Matthew Michelle, and Chase Price.

Preseason Ranking

The Associated Preseason Press Poll elected UNC Women’s Basketball team as the 5th best team in the country on October 30th.  Click here to read more.  On October 26th, the Blue Ribbon Panel of the ACC voted our team as their favorite to win the ACC.  Coach Hatchell stated at Sunday night’s scrimmage that she did not mind our team wearing a bull’s eye on their backs as other teams try to upset us.

Singers Needed!

Do you know either an individual or a group who would like to sing our National Anthem prior to one of our home games?  This is an exciting opportunity for UNC Women’s Basketball fans who are vocally talented!  Click here for more information.

Season Tickets to be mailed on or before Wednesday, November 4th

Jonathan Miller, Assistant Director of Ticket Operations, reports to us that they will mail Women's Basketball season tickets on or before Wednesday, November 4th.  Parking passes for those who qualify will also be mailed around that same day.

Treasurer’s Blog:  From Gary Triplett

Tar Heel Team Tempo’s steering committee is busy trying to get our organization off the ground, get our great fans to attend the games and of course, planning some great events for our membership.  I have been told that many of you would give if the contributions were tax-deductible.  The Committee understands and we are working as hard as we can to make that happen, but even doing that requires funding.  We need your assistance and if you are able to contribute, please do so.  The address is:
