Please note that under NCAA regulations
parents of all student-athletes are highly restricted when attending social
activities. Nobody, including the Las Vegas Carolina Club or Tar Heel Team
Tempo, can provide any member of the family of our players with ANY benefit,
including meals. Almost all our players’ parents are members of Tar Heel
Team Tempo and they want to join other fans and our celebrations. Be kind
to them: let them know that you understand the rules. They MUST pay for
everything they consume to be allowed to attend a social event. Shake their
hand, pat them on the back, congratulate them on their wonderful daughter
and her athletic ability, but respect their need to be independent and
therefore in compliance with NCAA rules. Do not purchase anything for them
because they MUST refuse it. And do not include them in any event unless
all UNC fans are invited! These player family members walk a thin line
supporting their daughters and UNC fans. Let’s make it easy and comfortable
for them to interface with Tar Heel Team Tempo! For more information on
this sensitive topic, click
here.

food and drink! Dutch treat, of course.

From the UNC Women’s Basketball Office
On Monday Italee Lucas was released for a full practice
and as of Tuesday, she is scheduled to play Wednesday night. The team is
looking forward to going to Las Vegas to honor Italee which will give her
the opportunity to play in front of her friends and family. All of the UNC
Women’s Basketball staff appreciates the great Carolina Fever crowd at the
game Friday night!
From Jan Boxill, Academic Advisor:
With the start of the season there is added
pressure on the academic side. Evening study hall becomes more intense, but
also more focused. There is the realization that time management is
essential.
Interestingly with the advent of the
season, the players attend class and come to study sessions with a more
positive attitude. They become true student-athletes. Our hope is that they
are as successful in the classroom as they are on the court.
With only three weeks left of class before
final exams, the level of intensity is heightened even more, and the study
hours are even more precious. Several of the players have exams on the
Monday & Tuesday after they return from Las Vegas, so there will be a lot of
studying going on there!
New Recruits for Next Year
Last week Coach Hatchell announced that UNC had signed
two high school senior players for action in Chapel Hill next year. Latifah
Coleman from Pageland SC and Shannon Smith of Gastonia NC committed to don
the blue and white uniform next year. For more information about these
players from UNCAA, click
here; from scout.com, click

Poster Day supported by more THTT members!
Coach Hatchell extends her belated
appreciation to Ed Burt and Laurie Ferris who also generously volunteered
their time to accompany the women players as they distributed posters in
retail locations around Chapel Hill! If you see a retail establishment that
needs a poster, click

TEMPO TALK
Membership Committee Report: From Bill Poteat
Yes, those folks with the
clipboards interviewing fans at our home games are Tar Heel Team Tempo
volunteers. Talk to one at the next home game, identify yourself as a THTT
member and receive your button and some business cards.

Give these cards to your
friends who are fans of UNC Women’s Basketball and ask them to join us in
our efforts to better enjoy our home games and to increase home game
attendance. Forward this e‑newsletter to them with an encouraging note.
Tell them about our ultimate objective to fill the arena for home games in
support of our wonderful team. And don’t forget that by joining Tar Heel
Team Tempo, they will have access to fun events both with other fans and
with the UNC Women’s Basketball program.
Please don’t delay to
confirm your membership! For those of
you who joined last year, time is running out to renew your membership.
There are 79 old members who have not yet renewed. If you respond to the
email we sent you requesting an update to your info, you will automatically
renew your membership in Tar Heel Team Tempo for this 2009/2010 season. If
you’ve lost the email, just click
here to email us that you want to renew and
update your info if necessary.
Also many of you receive this
newsletter even though you haven’t yet joined Tar Heel Team Tempo. At least
you will receive it during 2009! Click

uncertain about whether you have already applied, please sign up again!
Treasurer’s Blog: From Gary Triplett
Tar Heel Team Tempo’s steering committee continues to
work on securing a tax-deductible status for our emerging organization. We
thank you for your patience as we fulfill the accounting and legal
requirements to be what you want us to be!
Last week we secured two web domain names for future
use: tarheelteamtempo.com and tarheelteamtempo.org at an annual cost of
$200. These names are reserved for us until we transfer web design to the
new site sometime later this basketball season! Thanks to Greg Yvars for
his help.
We need your assistance during these initial phases and
if you are able to contribute, please send your donation to:
