TEAM TALK

Strong first half powers Tar Heels over Georgia Tech

The Tar Heels opened ACC play with a strong first half and Italee's 28 points leading to a 89-78 win over Georgia Tech.  Read the recap from UNCAA here and Lauren Brownlow's “In the Zone” article here.  Edward Robinson of the Raleigh News and Observer also reported the event in the Sports Section here and the ACCNow blog here

Nearly perfect first half by UCONN crushes the Tar Heels

The Huskies used a 23-0 run to gain a 32 point half time lead.  A heartbreaking 88-47 loss for the Tar Heels becomes a chance to learn and grow and improve for conference and tournament time.  Read the UNCAA recap here, the ESPN recap here, and the UCONN viewpoint here.  Check out quotes from both coaches in articles from the News and Observer here and ESPN's  Graham Hays article titled “UCONN's first half play as good as it gets” here.

From the UNCAA website

UNCAA and Carolina All Access continue to share interviews and videos of the team.  The latest video is titled “Traveling with the Heels”.  Click here to go to the UNCAA web site then look for the video player on the right to view the clip. The Tar Heels visited the ESPN center during their trip as well.  As an extra bonus, click here and here to see the photos from the tour shared on the UNCWBB twitter feed.

A request from the UNCAA and the THTT Outreach Committee

The Marketing and Promotions Office of UNCAA has asked Tar Heel Team Tempo to help identify and encourage groups that would be interested in group, discount purchases of individual game tickets. We have starter lists of Middle/Elementary schools and of Retirement Communities to visit.

There are at least two ways you might help this project:

1) Identify groups with which you are familiar that might be interested in attending games and

2) Volunteer your time to deliver materials promoting group sales to interested groups.

Click  here to email the THTT Outreach Committee your suggestions and level of interest.

REMINDER: Parking information from the UNCAA

Click here to read the release concerning parking and road construction for the game this week. You are encouraged to take advantage of the FREE SHUTTLE from Bowles Lot (which is free parking) and Carmichael, as well as between the Ramshead parking lot (PAID parking) and Carmichael.

Shuttle service will begin approximately one hour before tip off --- except for the NC State and Duke games, when it will begin 90 minutes before tip off.

Additional parking options and a map are described here.

UNC in the National Statistics

The NCAA keeps statistics and rankings of a variety of individual and team items.  To view the Jan 10, 2010 report for the Tar Heels click here. Top 25 Polls

UNC drops to #10 in the AP poll and #11 in the ESPN/USA Today poll after the loss at UCONN. Other ACC teams in the top 25 include Duke (#7), Florida State (#16), Georgia Tech (#21/NR), Virginia (#23/24), and joining them this week in the AP poll is Miami (FL) (#25/NR).  Maryland is also receiving votes.  See the full listing here.

Thanks to all those who came out to support our team last Saturday at Champps. We had 40 fans, despite the fact that the game was available nationally on CBS.

The Sunday, January 17th  game against Maryland begins at 5 PM at Carmichael. Because of the timing of this game, we will not have a formal meal together at Time Out, though they will be open and serving! Be sure to wear your Tar Heel Team Tempo buttons to the MD game!

Our next planned away game viewing party will be Monday, January 25th, at Time Out, for the NC State game. Try to arrive between 6:30 and the 7:00 PM tip off to secure a good seat before ordering your food and drinks. Time Out Sport Bar is our permanent location now!
