TEAM TALK

Tar Heels win over Clemson, 79-61

The Tar Heels outlasted the Tigers on Friday night with a 23-4 run at the end of the game.  Read the UNCAA recap here and the Daily Tar Heel articles here and here.  It was also shag dance night and indeed Coach Hatchell did come out after the game for a little dancing with her husband Sammy.

Tar Heels win first ACC road game at NC State, 81-69

UNC had its second comeback win in row, this time in our rival's Reynolds Coliseum.  Down by 9 in the second half, Italee Lucas turned hot resulting in a career high 33 points, 28 of which came in the second half.  Freshman Waltiea Rolle was also a star with 12 point, 8 rebounds, and 7 blocks.  Read the UNCAA recap here and the Daily Tar Heel articles here and here.  Also view the News and Observer ACC blog entry here and the N&O sports section article here.

New Traditions

The coaching staff requests new game routines to energize both the team and the fans at home games.

·         You may have already noticed the team all standing with right hand across the heart during the National Anthem. This is in accordance with the US Flag Code for a proper salute when not in military uniform.  Please join the team in this salute.  Click here to learn more about the US Flag code or here to read a report for congress.

·         Please stand, clap, and cheer for the player introductions and continue through the first basket made by our team.

·         Please stand, clap, and cheer at the beginning of the second half until the first basket made by  our team.

·         At the end of the game, after the sing the Alma Mater, the players will run a victory lap thanking the fans for their support. Kids (young and not so young) are welcome to approach the rail to slap hands as they run past.

Around the ACC

Excitement continues in the ACC.  Duke is the only team without a loss so far but they struggled to hang onto a 1 point win over Maryland.  Among other games this week, NC State beats Wake Forest with a buzzer beater, Virginia handles Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech beats Miami.  Keep track of the ACC WBB standings here.

Top 25 Polls

UNC inches back up to #12 in the AP poll and #13 in the ESPN/USA Today poll after wins over Maryland and Clemson. Other ACC teams in the top 25 include Duke (#7), Florida State (#13/14), Virginia (#21/20), and Georgia Tech (#25/NR).  Miami (Fl) is also receiving votes.  See the full listing here.
