TEMPO TALK |
|
|
|
From the Chairman
Greetings to the Tar Heel Team Tempo Family,
February is upon us and March Madness will be here soon. This has been
an interesting year for our youthful Tar Heels. They currently reside in
third place after Monday night’s disappointing loss to FSU, but they are
continuing to improve each game. I fully expect that they will be the
team to beat when it is time for the ACC Tournament, which I encourage
all to attend. It is a wonderful fan-friendly event that I have attended
for several years. I want to show the ACC that UNC has the best
supporters, who are better known as TAR HEEL TEAM TEMPO!
With
all the fun that we have had this year, it seems that the time to
discuss year-end business has slipped up on me.
The
first formal elections for positions on our Board of Directors will be
held at our Annual Meeting, which will be scheduled after the end of the
basketball season.
This
year we will be voting for individuals to fill all nine seats on the
Board. Three of those elected will serve 3-year terms. Three will serve
2-year terms and three will serve 1-year terms. In that way, three
seats, on a rotating basis, will become available each year going
forward. According to our proposed By-laws, those elected individuals
will then determine officers and committee chairs.
Up to
now the business of the organization has been managed by a group of
volunteers, serving as a Steering Committee. We have grown to nearly 500
members, established a cooperative working relationship with the UNC
Athletic Department, and, through a variety of programs encouraged
increasing numbers of people to support women’s basketball. Much has
been done; there is much more to do. We want to fill Carmichael for
every game.
Gail
Jacobs has agreed to serve as the Nominating Committee Chair. You will
soon be getting a letter from her asking you to consider running for the
Board. Please think about it seriously. I can tell you first hand that
working with the enthusiastic fans of our fabulous women’s basketball
program is a pleasure not to be missed.
Also,
we will be voting on final approval of the By-Laws, which can be found
here, http://www.meridians.us/ncteamtempo/committees/steering/bylaws.htm.
Please take a moment to review them prior to the Annual Meeting.
See
you at the games. Go Heels! |

Events Committee
Our viewing
parties are going well. We watched the State game on January 25th at
Time Out. Everyone in attendance appeared to be enjoying the
camaraderie as well as the food and drink, not to mention the victory!
Our next event:
Monday, Feb. 8th: for those of you who are not traveling on the
bus over to Durham for the game, please join the Carolina crew as we
root for our Lady Tar Heels from the comfort of Time Out in the Holiday
Inn on the 150-501 Bypass in Chapel Hill. Appropriate dress is
encouraged --- especially "Beat Dook" themes. This could be a good
practice for gathering your special outfit that shows exactly how you
feel about UNC and Duke when those Blue Devils travel to play in Chapel
Hill on February 28th. Tar Heel Team Tempo will have a costume contest
with prizes on Feb. 28th. Who is the most creative? Who wants to
demonstrate their Carolina spirit the most? Who wants to beat Dook?
