Our arrival in Horta at 0615 shortly after dawn is uneventful.  The harbormaster asks us to anchor and wait for customs to open at 0800.  At noon Chris launches the dinghy and begins the clearance process.  Due to official lunch schedules, he is delayed final clearance until after 1530.  The crew spends a quiet day resting and recovering aboard SHIBUMI at anchor while he is on shore.

At 1130 we weigh anchor and motor out of the port of Lajes on the island of Flores.  Our 130 mile trip to Horta will consist mostly of motor-sailing since the Azore High has settled on the region.   The ship and crew are clean and healthy so we relax as we cross more of the Atlantic.  Dolphins follow our progress several times and race the ship through the waves.  We have a sirloin steak and potatoes dinner to celebrate Lou Beaman's last dinner with us.  As night settles in, TJ and Emily use the radar to track ships approaching and departing Faial.
