We join three other yachts anchored in the
harbor of Ponta Delgada at 1900. We miss checking in with customs
since they close at 1700 daily so we relax and eat dinner aboard.
Bill, TJ, and Emily sort through the DVD's and CD's as they discover their
mutual interest in card games. Ponta Delgada is the largest city in
the Azores and we arrive, as usual, in the middle of a festival weekend
which means loud music and fireworks over the marina and harbor.

At 1545 we finish loading water on the
fuel dock in Horta and sail north between the islands of Faial and Pico
heading for Cork, Ireland. At 2200 we are advised by our weather
router, Herb Hilgenberg, to divert southeast to Ponta Delgada to avoid a
mid-Atlantic low blowing 50 mph winds with 20 foot seas which he predicts
will hit us Sunday. We agree and revise our course from Ireland to the
island of Sao Miguel.
