Our arrival Horta at 1130 after literally
going in circles for an hour to test the magnetic compasses feels like a
homecoming. We anchor in the same spot in the harbor and negotiate
dock space to work on engine maintenance and repairs. |

After touring the northwest part of Sao
Miguel in the morning, we leave Ponta Delgada harbor at 1445 to return to
Horta. We have discovered that the hydraulic windlass which controls
raising the 5/8 inch anchor chain is leaking a unusual amount of hydraulic
fluid. Chris determines that this repair and others will best be
completed in Horta. In addition we email our mail forwarding service
to ship the contents of our mailbox to us at Horta. Our pasta
aficionado, Emily Davis, prepares a SHIBUMI version of lasagna with ground
deer meat. We assume a two hours on/four hours off watch schedule
through an uneventful night sail during which the wind, pointed directly on
the nose, dissipates to nothing. |
