As we sailed over to Sao Jorge, Emily
spotted something in the water. After careful inspection, we decided
that it was a dead seal or shark as she discovered a hook embedded in it.
We motored for all of the three and a half hour run as there was absolutely
no wind at all. When we arrived at Velas, we reviewed the available
moorings but could not negotiate the one we needed due to our length with
the sailboat who had just arrived. In the nick of time, a local
fisherman motored out to rework the dinghies on the other moorings to allow
us the prime anchorage in the harbor. A typical example of the
kindness and friendliness of the Azorean people. |

We left Horta with mixed feelings as we
had docked in the harbor instead of anchoring out for boat maintenance. The result was that we met
several couples from other boats and thoroughly enjoyed our time with them.
John and Linda Noon on Guardian, our next door neighbor from Sweden, Bo
Feoland on Adiah,
as well as Jack and Pat Tyler on Whoosh gave us a new cruising experience. Chris mentioned that he was happy enough to stay awhile and
that it was either time to rent a condo on shore or sail sway before we got
too complacent. |
