The ride south was easy and uneventful.  Although we had charts to sail up the Rio Duoro, we decided to anchor outside the marina at Leixoes, currently the major port for the area.  Leixoes is the stop for cruise ships, tankers, and container ships, none of whom attempt the river.  It is busy harbor but the marina is carefully nestled on the north side of the entrance, out of the way of the major traffic.  The harbor water is dirty, but otherwise the anchorage is sufficient for our short-term needs.

We left Bayona as early Thursday morning as practical.  It was cool, we were wearing sweaters during the day, and we feared that fall was fast approaching.  The full moon bid us farewell as it hung over the city.  There are a pair of shoal areas which are covered with rocks leading from Bayona so we gingerly sailed out of the harbor and made our way west before carefully turning south.  The morning fog created a surreal effect against the coastline as we motored past several sailboats who chose a more leisurely, quieter pace under sail.
