Our overnight sail was uneventful as we
shared three hour on/off watches. Mid-morning found us sailing around the
cape to Cascais, a suburb of Lisbon. We plan to anchor here by the marina
and visit Lisbon by commuter train as much as we want! The anchorage is
large and fairly full with other transient cruisers. After two anchoring
attempts, we set the hook at 1100 and begin to settle into life at anchor
again. A quick trip ashore revealed a much more upscale town than we have
visited in the past! |

The first item Saturday morning was to
hoist the anchor and depart Leixoes. However we were met with a surprise:
the anchor was hooked to a harbor debris...a line from the harbor floor.
Down comes the dinghy so that Chris can cut the line from the anchor. The
first of many to come! We sailed out of the harbor at 1000 into picture
perfect weather but no wind! At 1730, several schools of porpoises
accompanied us for several hours. Literally hundreds of them came from
every direction to sail with us. We tired of watching them before they
tired of chasing us! What great creatures! |
