An uneventful trip, we arrive at 1500 and
motor up the river to ascertain the best anchorage. We return to the
large and secure anchorage at the mouth of the river and set the hook behind
Sundance and China Moon, two yachts with children that we have met in
several ports, the last one being Cascais. It is a great thing to hear
a nine year old on the VHF negotiating with a friend to go ashore or to set
a time to meet on one or the other of the boats to climb the mast or play
board games! |

After walking the Sagres peninsular the
day before, we are ready to depart the harbor of Baleeira and move
east. Our next port of call is Portimao which has a protected
anchorage at the mouth of the river Arade. Our friends from Sea Swallow,
Bill and Jacqueline Bennett,
arrive at nightfall and visit us for a few minutes before we leave. It
is a clear day with SHIBUMI winds: 20 knots on our nose! So we
motor east avoiding the fishing buoys which dot the ocean, reflections of
our adventures two years ago in Maine! |
