So at 2300, we arose,
dressed, weighed anchor and began the nine hour motor run to Motril.
We motored because the wind was blowing 40 mph right on the bow with waves
bouncing off the top of the pilot house. All night long. But it
was safer at sea than in the tight anchorage so we were both tired and
relieved as we ventured east. Jackie took the first two hour watch
from midnight to 0200 which allowed Chris the privilege of dodging all the
fishing boats from Motril later that night. We arrived in Motril
harbor at 0830 and negotiated a safe spot to anchor for the next week. |

The original plan was to
sail all day and anchor at the mouth of the Fuengirola harbor, eat dinner,
sleep overnight, and weigh anchor the next morning to sail to Motril.
We were able to sail about half the time during the run to Fuengirola.
The original plan worked fine until we anchored in a small bay surrounded
with quays and a beach. The gale that blew in at 2200 threatened our
comfort level. If the anchor drug or snapped, we had a problem which
we would need to correct in minutes. Unfortunately when you are
asleep, you don't notice problems until they are REAL problems! |
