Anchorages:

 Vila das Velas (Town of Candles) on free mooring supplied by town.  No other safe anchoring opportunity on island

Marinas:

 None

Check In/Out Procedures:

 All departments available through Town Gates across from anchorage

Restaurants:

 Club Nautico:  standard foods and prices for Azores

Provisions:

 Supermarket in upper town;  small food shops abound

Transportation:

 Visit the Tourist Office near Club Nautico to find an English-speaking taxi driver for a half day island tour (60 Euro).   Joe Rodriguez (966-780-073) gave us an excellent tour of the northern and western parts of the island.

Sao Jorge Cheese Production

One of seven cheese factories

Milk is pumped from individual containers to processing plant

Containers are then washed and returned

Whey is added to milk and allowed to sit

Afterwards milk product is pressed for 24 hours, turned and then pressed for another 24 hours

Cheese is then stored for 25-30 days

Cheese is turned daily during storage
